Pre-event massage

  • Is not a substitute for a warm-up
  • Warm up and emphasis on the specific muscles. 
  • Should be pain free
  • Stimulate the sympathetic nervous system 
  • Stimulate the athlete mental alertness


Post-event massage

  • After appropriate warm-down activities
  • Improve nutrition to soft tissues and removal of metabolites from muscles
  • Calm the athlete mentally
  • Passive stretching can be incorporated
  • Assess and determine the need for necessary follow up treatments.
